Skills the young possess, given the chances

Published by Mike Temple under Video

Take a look at Sarah’s video she made on making banana bread. She’s just 8 years old and shows how comfortable she is with the technology. She not only prepared and scripted this, but also did the editing and music. Her dad is Wes Fryer, but I still think we need to think very high for our young people in schools as to what they can do, given the opportunities.

MediaCoder – universal video transcoding – free software

Published by Mike Temple under File convertor, Video

Converting video files from one format to another is one of the more frustrating tasks users find as they delve into the capabilities of their system.

VLC on Windows

I know of more than a handful of Windows users that became very frustrated upon discovering that working with video files is a journey into a dark forest of codecs, acronyms and incompatible file formats.

Video tutorials

Video Tutorials Not everyone learns by reading books!

Includes dreamweaver and photoshop – brilliant

From Teachict.com

Often the best way is to watch someone else first.

Rather than having to put up your hand and wait for the teacher to show you how to do something, you can now find out for yourself.

Watch the recording, stop it, start it, rewind, fast forward. You can work at your own pace and see it as many times as you need.

Any Video Converter

Published by Mike Temple under File convertor, Video

When you start dabbling with video files on a PC, one of the first things that happens is you realize that you need to convert a file from one of the myriad of video formats to another one.

Any Video Converter

Then, as you start investigating how to go about doing that, you find that it’s not such a simple task – at least that’s what I found.

That’s why I was very happy to discover Any Video Converter. This monster of a little utility can convert almost any video file to almost any others. The list of supported formats include DivX, XviD, MOV, rm, rmvb, MPEG, VOB, DVD, WMV, AVI to MPEG-4 movie format for iPod/PSP or other portable video device, MP4 player or smart phone. Oh, and did I mention that it’s free?

A Skype from the classroom – an update on video conferencing wiki

Published by Mike Temple under Collaboration, Streaming, Video

Looking into video conferencing?

Wondering where to start?

What equipment should I use?

How do I organise a meeting?

What do I need to do before setting out on this journey?

Who do I conference with?

Where do I find them?

What should we talk about?

How long should it last?

Do I need a specialist room?

Do I need specialist equipment?

Do I need a high level of ICT skill?

Is it just a gimmick?

There are a great deal of answers and ideas already on the  A Skype from the classroom

However, this is a wiki that needs YOU to help.

kitchener_you.gif Your views are needed!

I need anyone who has answers to these or any other questions to help me put together a simple, tech-free ( as much as possible) guide to Video (web) conferencing on this wiki.  A wiki simply allows anyone to contribute or edit content very easily – if you get stuck, contact me.  Feel free to add pages where necessary.

Also, if you are just starting or are experienced, others would love to hear what you’ve been doing

Thanks

Mike
