A Skype from the classroom – an update on video conferencing wiki

Published by Mike Temple under Collaboration, Streaming, Video

Looking into video conferencing?

Wondering where to start?

What equipment should I use?

How do I organise a meeting?

What do I need to do before setting out on this journey?

Who do I conference with?

Where do I find them?

What should we talk about?

How long should it last?

Do I need a specialist room?

Do I need specialist equipment?

Do I need a high level of ICT skill?

Is it just a gimmick?

There are a great deal of answers and ideas already on the  A Skype from the classroom

However, this is a wiki that needs YOU to help.

kitchener_you.gif Your views are needed!

I need anyone who has answers to these or any other questions to help me put together a simple, tech-free ( as much as possible) guide to Video (web) conferencing on this wiki.  A wiki simply allows anyone to contribute or edit content very easily – if you get stuck, contact me.  Feel free to add pages where necessary.

Also, if you are just starting or are experienced, others would love to hear what you’ve been doing

Thanks

Mike

from Weblogg-ed

I came across this post from Pat Aroune in Western NY who has been diving head first into Read/Write Web tools with his students:

“About one month ago, I asked five students to participate in an online experiment utilizing Skype and an online interactive whiteboard called Vyew. Vyew is a free, always on collaboration and web conferencing site that allows individuals real-time desktop sharing and capturing. I met with this small group of students, and we began what was essentially on online tutoring session for an upcoming essay.”

Yack Pack- makes it easy for groups to communicate, free

Published by Mike Temple under Collaboration

YackPack makes it easy for groups to communicate,
using your own voice and an ordinary Mac or PC. YackPack is simple: You just click and talk. No typing required – and no software to install.

YackPack is ideal for groups such as:
– Work Teams
- Education Classes
- Family Groups

Your group can use YackPack in two ways: Live Voice & Voice Messaging. In both modes the richness of voice helps people communicate easily and clearly, avoiding the misunderstandings caused by email.

Take a look at the tutorials including YackPack For Educators
Learn how YackPack can be used various ways in education.
This, for me, was the key information to allow me to see how this can be used in schools

Yackpack and PBwiki Partnership

Published by Mike Temple under Collaboration

PBWiki and the folks at YackPack recently announced a partnership that adds voice communication to any PBwiki.

This is going to be a neat way to enhance collaborations on a wiki, because now you can not only collaborate via the text on the wiki pages, you can talk to other collaborators live via your wiki.
