Google alerts – filtered content alerts

Published by Mike Temple under Blogging, rss

google blog alertsIn the gigantic world of blogs, there are so many important ones to keep up with, and sometimes the information they provide might not be what you want to read.

You might want to search out blogs just to read one specific topic–how on earth can you keep up?

Our friends at Google have come up with an answer, Google Blog Alerts. Its at the same address as their regular Google Alert application, and works the same way. Just choose your search term, and under the Type, choose Blog, and how often Google should check for your results. Simple as that. No more surfing aimlessly looking for blog content.

Tim Tyson – The Blogging School – a podcast

Published by Mike Temple under Blogging, Podcasts

I recently listened to a podcast from Alan November’s collection – blogging in schools.
I have listened and read much about this over the last year, but I feel this gave me a direct link into how blogging worked in a school environment, particularly from a head teacher’s point of view.

Take a listen (around 35 mins) Tim Tyson – The Blogging School

Also take a look at the school’s website which Tim designed at Maybryonline

Scrapblog – brilliantly intuitive way to make digital stories

Published by Mike Temple under Blogging

Scrapblog - this is great.

Take a look at the  tour and see what a great tool this is. It is all free and online, but with drag and drop functionality, it is easy to make a presentation with pictures, video, audio

So, a bit like Powerpoint, but way easier to use and share the content. Each presentation has its own url so others can take a look too

For those of you blogging with students, this would be a great way to make a digital story and then embed the presentation right into your blog post, rather that the Slideshare method you have to use when using Powerpoint see Slide Shows for Your Blog

Published by Mike Temple under Blogging, Podcasts

I just listened to this great podcast on RSS and just realised the things I’d been missing.

It’s about 40 minutes but give all the benefits of RSS as well as a very simple explanation into its workings and setting up

direct from Ideas and thoughts (Dean Shareski) – I’d really suggest adding this subscription to your i-Tunes
